Katihar: On the occasion of International Nurses Day, the District Health Committee, Katihar organized a district-level felicitation ceremony on 12 May 2026. During the program, nursing staff and health workers who delivered outstanding services in the district’s healthcare sector were honored with awards. The main objective of the event was to publicly appreciate the dedication, commitment, and valuable contributions of nurses who play a crucial role in providing healthcare services.

According to the press release, International Nurses Day is observed every year on 12 May. This day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nurses Day is recognized worldwide as a tribute to the service, struggle, and remarkable contribution of nurses towards humanity. It has been observed annually on 12 May since 1974.

The District Health Committee stated that, like last year, this year too health workers who performed exceptionally well in the nursing sector were honored. Under the program, one Staff Nurse, one Community Health Officer (CHO), and one ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) were selected from the block level. The selection process was carried out based on predetermined performance criteria.

The criteria included the maximum number of deliveries conducted for Staff Nurses, a composite ranking of work performed at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs for Community Health Officers, and the highest immunization performance for ANMs.

In this felicitation ceremony, Staff Nurse Poonam Kumari from Barari, CHO Anwesha Sinha Mahapatra from Kharira HWC (Pranpur Block), and ANM Patricia Maria John Murandi from Hatbangra HWC (Barsoi Block) were selected and awarded with certificates of appreciation (Prashasti Patra).

The District Health Committee, Katihar praised the invaluable contribution of the nursing workforce, stating that nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, always standing at the forefront to serve patients even in difficult circumstances. The committee added that such recognition will encourage other health workers to perform even better in the future.
