Husband Dies of Electrocution While Trying to Save Wife During Irrigation in Field

A tragic incident occurred in Narayanpur Panchayat under the Manihari police station area of Katihar district on Saturday, where a husband and wife died due to electrocution while irrigating their farmland.

According to information received, the couple had gone to their field to water their crops. During the process, the wife accidentally came in contact with an electric current and was electrocuted. Seeing her in danger, the husband rushed to rescue her, but he too was caught in the electric current. Within moments, both collapsed unconscious at the spot.

Farmers working in nearby fields immediately rushed to help and took them to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in a hurry. However, after examination, the doctors declared both of them dead.

Following the incident, a wave of grief spread across the entire area. Mukhiya representative Subhash Mandal said that as soon as he received the information, he reached the hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths. He informed that the deceased couple belonged to the same panchayat. The victims have been identified as Ranjana Devi and her husband Ranjan Thakur, residents of Chikni Ward No. 2 under Narayanpur Panchayat. They had gone to their maize field located in Chikni Bahiyaar for irrigation.

The couple were small farmers and depended entirely on agriculture for their livelihood. They are survived by three daughters and one son, leaving the family devastated.

After receiving the information, a police team led by DSP Vinod Kumar and Manihari थाना अध्यक्ष Pankaj Anand reached the spot and began investigation. The DSP termed the incident extremely unfortunate and stated that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.

Police have sent both bodies to Katihar for post-mortem. Officials also said that if negligence by the electricity department is found, strict action will be taken. The village remains in deep mourning after the heartbreaking incident.
